Mount Luxmore, Kepler Track Guided Day Walks

Nature Observations are able to offer groups two popular options for walking this section of the Kepler Track.

Fly and Walk:

Grade: Medium - Its all down hill!

Walking Time: 4 hours

Enthralling scenic helicopter flight over the Te Anau township, Hidden Lakes and beech forest of Mount Luxmore to arrive at Luxmore Hut. From here we walk down the mountain to the Control Gates. This option allows for panoramic views both whilst flying in the helicopter and walking across the mountain top. A fabulous way to appreciate the scenery and beauty of Fiordland.

Rate: $390 per person Depart Te Anau Lakefront 8.00am returning aaproximately 2.00pm.

Luxmore Hut:

Grade: Difficult

Time: 7 hours return

We first enjoy a boat ride on Lake Te Anau to Brod Bay, a beach you could be forgiven for thinking was in the tropics, such is the texture of sand. A steady climb leads us past bizarre limestone formations to the treeline, where silver beech forest gives way to open tussock.

Views of Lake Te Anau’s South Fiord open up and are complemented south by a panorama taking in the entire Te Anau basin including Lake Manapouri and the Takitimu Range. At Luxmore Hut, we enjoy lunch with a view before our descent.
