Milford Track: Out of Season

Out of Season Milford Track Transport package April / May 2012.

Operated by TRACKNET in conjunction with Milford Sound Sea Kayaks, commencing as conditions such as snow or weather allow the track to be passable.

During the Off Peak/Winter Season (Late April to mid October) the Milford Track remains open, lake, weather and track conditions permitting. Departures are available from the 27th of April 2012 until 27th of May 2012 (or until weather closes the track).

COMPLETE MILFORD TRACK TRANSPORT PACKAGE

Te Anau to Glade Wharf & Sandfly Point to Te Anau - Total cost $180 per person.

Full Transport Package includes:

  • Minibus from Te Anau to Te Anau Downs
  • Fast boat to Glade Wharf (start of the Milford Track)
  • Pick-up at Sandfly Point by motor boat.
  • Bus back to Te Anau via the Milford Road, one of New Zealand's most scenic highways.

*A minimum of six (6) passengers required on each departure.

Departure Details

Departing Te Anau at either 8.00am OR *10.00am to Glade Wharf (maximum of 13 people per Bus and Boat, 10.00am departure will only be available once 8.00am departure is full.

Boat from Sandfly Point to Milford Sound departing at 2.00pm, the bus from Milford Sound to Te Anau will depart shortly after this time.

* 10.00am departure is subject to 8.00am trip being full.

**Bookings are essential, Tracknet are permitted to transport a maximum of 26 people per day to Glade Wharf.

Important Information

DOC Hut Fees Apply - hut tickets are available at DOC Centres.

You are responsible for your own safety. Please ensure your group is well equipped and carrying the correct equipment for your journey. Tracknet reserves the right not to transport poorly equipped individuals, all departures are subject to lake, weather & track conditions.

Tracknet Strongly suggest that:

  • Intention Forms should be completed before departure and left with your trusted contact.
  • Mountain Radios or Personal Locator Beacons should be carried - In Te Anau Stu's place hire Mountain Radio's (+64 3 249 8363 = $50.00 for 3-7 days) and Mobil Te Anau hire Personal Locator Beacons (+64 3 249 7247 = $35.00 for 7 days).

Track Information:

Some bridges are removed to avoid damage from avalanches and some facilities are not available, hut tickets are necessary.

Hut Information:

Radios, gas cooking rings, fuel for heating and lighting are removed from huts. They will not have running water but a nearby water supply is available. Flush toilets are closed but a winter pit toilet is provided.

Equipment Considerations:

In addition to the equipment listed for walking during the Great Walks Peak Season you should also carry: a gas cooker, toilet paper, torch or gas light for at night in hut, extra food in case you are delayed on the track, extra warm clothing, mountain radio or personal locator beacon (PLB).

Cancellation Policy

  • No refund after departure on to track.
  • Full refund - if cancellation is made outside 24 hours or if DOC cancel departure.
  • 90% refund - if cancellation is within 4 - 24 hours prior to departure.
  • No refund - if cancellation is made within 4 hours of departure or a 'No Show'.
  • If the track is closed after walking has begun, Tracknet and their partners reserve the right to use any remaining portion of ticketed fare towards the cost of transport to safety, in extreme cases clients will be liable for extra transport expenses.
