Te Anau is a beautiful quiet township on the shores of Lake Te Anau. Te Anau is located halfway between Queenstown and Milford Sound and is the gateway into the Fiordland National Park.
Te Anau Information
Te Anau is "the walking capital of the world", with the Kepler Track within a 45 minute walk of the town centre, the Milford Track starting point is just a 20 minute drive towards Milford Sound and the Routeburn Track is a 45 minute drive away.
In Te Anau there are well equipped supermarkets for purchasing or re-stocking supplies, specialised sports shops where you are able to purchase or hire equipment for your hikes as well as personal locator beacons and mountain radio's for those travelling in winter months or lesser known tracks.
Te Anau has a range of accommodation options for travellers from backpacker's lodges, holiday parks and motels. There are a lot of options for sightseeing with Milford and Doubtful Sound being so close; there are options for exploring by cave tour, jet boat, scenic flights, and much more.
